170×170 day 72 11.8.15

World is a wicked place
For innocent souls that’s for sure,
There are not much chances
For the safe living of pure.

For the vilest ones stalk them
With the intention of devouring
They can be quite deadly
And mostly they are really persisting.

Once there was a naïve young woman
Battling her own war with real life
Her world was filled with problems
It was too infested with strife.

She chanced upon a temple peaceful
Sat down there with the crowd
Hoping for a little tranquility
In this world wicked or wild.

Maybe it was just her sheer bad luck
A witch was sitting there silently
Looking for her next prey
And her evil eyes fell on the girl lonely.

She weaved her evil web around
The girl naïve, and innocent too glad
To discover the wolf inside sheep skin
For she was perfectly clad.

She preyed on her hunger
for real love, tenderness and affection
used her slithery tongue sweet and serpentine
to lure her to her destruction.

Rules of Ballad: I will request you to explore the rules of ballad yourself. I read quite a handful of them and thought that it’s quite a liberal style of poem with varying size of stanzas and other things. Go ahead and explore them. I have zeroed on two things- telling a story, using four line stanzas with rhyming 2nd+4th line.
